Stephen Wilson

Stephen Wilson is a mechanical engineer with over 30 years of experience on projects across 30 countries on strategy and policy of energy and mineral resource economics and markets along the full energy value chain and across all energy forms. As a Professor in the School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering at the University of Queensland Stephen developed and taught a masters course in Energy Markets, Law and Policy, as well as senior undergraduate courses in Professional Practice. He was the principal investigator of the study and lead author of the report on What would be required for nuclear energy plants to be operating in Australia from the 2030s published by the University of Queensland in 2021. Stephen supervised PhD research on Understanding the opportunities and costs of planning and operating electricity systems with high shares of variable renewable energy sources. That work also looked at the effect on total system costs of allowing small modular reactors in Australia’s National Electricity Market. Stephen is a graduate of the University of Melbourne and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland.
